🚀 Quick Start
- Sign In: Create an account or sign in with Google to start using PikaTalk.
- Select Languages: Choose your source language (what you speak) and target language (what you want to hear).
- Tap the Microphone: Press the blue microphone button to start a session.
- Speak Naturally: Talk at a normal pace. Pause for 3 seconds to trigger automatic translation, or tap "Push" to translate immediately.
- Listen to Translation: PikaTalk will speak the translation in the target language.
🔧 Troubleshooting
❌ "The request is not allowed by the user agent" / Microphone Access Denied
This error occurs when your browser doesn't have permission to access your microphone. Here's how to fix it:
📱 On iPhone/iPad (Safari)
- Tap the "aA" button in Safari's address bar
- Tap "Website Settings"
- Set Microphone to "Allow"
- Refresh the page and try again
Alternative: Go to iOS Settings → Safari → Camera & Microphone Access and ensure it's set to "Ask" or "Allow".
🤖 On Android (Chrome)
- Tap the lock icon 🔒 in the address bar
- Tap "Permissions"
- Enable Microphone
- Refresh the page
💻 On Desktop (Chrome/Edge/Firefox)
- Click the lock icon 🔒 in the address bar
- Find Microphone in the permissions list
- Change it to "Allow"
- Refresh the page
🔇 No Audio / Can't Hear Translation
- • Check your volume: Make sure your device isn't muted and volume is turned up.
- • Check Silent Mode: On iPhone, make sure the physical silent switch is OFF (no orange showing).
- • Bluetooth devices: If using Bluetooth headphones, ensure they're connected and selected as the audio output.
- • Try headphones: Some devices have issues with speaker output. Try using wired or wireless headphones.
🌐 Connection Problems / Session Keeps Disconnecting
- • Check your internet: PikaTalk requires a stable internet connection. Try switching between WiFi and mobile data.
- • VPN issues: Some VPNs can interfere with WebSocket connections. Try disabling your VPN temporarily.
- • Firewall/Corporate networks: Some corporate networks block WebSocket connections. Contact your IT department or try a different network.
- • Browser refresh: If the session freezes, simply refresh the page and start a new session.
📲 Installing PikaTalk as an App
For the best experience, install PikaTalk as a Progressive Web App (PWA) on your device:
📱 On iPhone/iPad
- Open app.pikatalk.ai in Safari
- Tap the Share button (square with arrow)
- Scroll down and tap "Add to Home Screen"
- Tap "Add" in the top right
🤖 On Android
- Open app.pikatalk.ai in Chrome
- Tap the three dots menu (⋮)
- Tap "Add to Home screen" or "Install app"
💡 Tips for Best Results
- 🎙️ Speak clearly: Position your device 6-12 inches from your mouth. Avoid covering the microphone.
- 🤫 Minimize background noise: Find a quiet environment when possible. PikaTalk has noise cancellation, but a quieter space always helps.
- ⏸️ Pause between thoughts: Natural pauses of 2-3 seconds help PikaTalk understand when you've finished a thought and trigger translation.
- 📝 Use the Glossary: Add industry-specific terms or names to ensure accurate translations for specialized vocabulary.
- 🔊 Adjust output style: Choose between Formal, Professional, Conversational, or Technical styles to match your context.
- ⚡ Use "Push" for instant translation: Don't want to wait for the pause detection? Tap the Push button to translate immediately.
💰 Credits & Billing
- How credits work: 1 credit = $0.01 USD. Usage is charged at approximately 25 credits ($0.25) per minute of active interpretation.
- Check your balance: Your credit balance is displayed in the top right corner of the app.
- Low balance warning: You'll see a warning when your balance drops below 250 credits (10 minutes of usage).
- Top up: Click on your credit balance or account icon to access the wallet and purchase more credits.
